I am not in any way a hype machine. I am not an over-seller, I cannot try to sell you on something I don’t think you want or need. I only endorse things I like, and only scream about things I think are great. Hence I continually preach about Austin’s The Bright Light Social Hour.

Racking up more awards than they were possibly even nominated for at this year’s Austin Music Awards, 6 in all including both Band of the Year and Album of the Year honors, by making honest, earnest music and being one of the most entertaining live acts I’ve seen in years, including being the talk of the day from Dia de los Toadies last Summer. The funk inspired heirs to the thrones of 70’s stalwarts Styx, Boston, Kansas for modern times, The Bright Light Social Hour released their excellent debut album last year (coming in at #2 on our year end list), and like any self-respecting band hit the road. Their current tour included a stop last night in Dallas and tonight in Fort Worth before heading back to Austin this weekend for what is sure to be a triumphant homecoming at The Mohawk.

Touring always helps bands grow – tightening their approach and in general making them a better band for playing in front of new audiences night after night – honing their show to an art. If that is the case since I last saw these guys in October, there is no other stage in Dallas, Fort Worth, Euless, Denton, Haltom City, Arlington or anywhere else in the area tonight presenting a better band. Prepare yourself for a big fun evening with an energetic performance.

I promise, I cannot over-sell. That’s how much I think of The Bright Light Social Hour.
