Oh Arcade Fire. How triumphantly you return to Dallas. A lot has happened in the past 6 years since you’ve been here. You’ve gone from playing Trees in 2005 on your tour for Funeral to becoming a festival headlining favorite and one of the more “controversial” Grammy winners since Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for the inaugural Hard Rock/Heavy Metal statue in 1989.

And we welcome you back.

With 3 albums to their credit, including the 2011 Grammy Album of the Year winning The Suburbs, Arcade Fire has been most ambitious with their almost baroque take on anthemic arena rock. Combining the grandeur of U2 or Bruce Springsteen’s sing/chant along choruses, the delicacy of American indie rock, and a hint of classically trained musicianship, this band was the one to fit all of these pieces together, and inspire several acts who just can’t imitate their sound (Airborne Toxic Event and Ra Ra Riot I’m looking your way).

Saturday night brings us only the second Arcade Fire show to these parts, and they’ve brought along a nice pedigree and resume with them this time, as well Austin’s indie heroes Okkervil River – whose new album, I Am Very Far will be released 5/10 – for an all out indie rock hoedown. Openers are another Austin bred act, the all female rockers Schmillion. Get there early you won’t want to miss out on any of this one.
