Maybe it’s an event, maybe it’s in a certain store, or maybe it’s when I go into Hot Topic to search for Slayer stuff (then I’m “that guy”) and I don’t look like I should even know what Hot Topic is. I saw that guy last night, looking like he should be waiting for the Cinderella/Warrant show. And he sang all the words to, and air drummed every drum fill for all 30 plus songs (that weren’t new, unreleased songs) by The Cure.

This show was brilliant. I wish I had a full setlist, but the highlights ranged from 4 Head On The Door songs – A Night Like This, Inbetween Days, Push (yeah), Close To Me, to a mini set of Disentegration songs – Love Song (not so much a highlight), Pictures of You, Lullaby, Fascination Street, to new songs that were fantastic. Then there were the encores. The first encore, I could’ve seen only these songs and gone home. Period. Three Imaginary Boys, Fire In Cairo, Boys Don’t Cry, Grinding Halt, Jumping Someone Elses Train, 10:15 Saturday Night, Killing An Arab. Then there was a second encore – Lovecats, Let’s Go To Bed, Why Can’t I Be You, Close To Me. And then, a third encore. A Forest.

I’ve now seen them 5 times since 7/19/86- Bronco Bowl on Standing On A Beach, 1989 Starplex – Disentegration, 1992 Texas Stadium – Wish,  2004  Smirnoff – Curiosa Festival, and  last night. And they were as good this time as in ’86, and put on a better show than any of the prior shows I had seen. This was so worth the money, time and effort (I’m old, I don’t do this so much anymore).

I try to kid myself that this band doesn’t mean so much to me anymore. I realize that I’m not so much a product of “New Wave” as I am a product of Post-Punk, I’m finding myself really wanting to delve back into those old catalogs, much like I have Joy Division as of late (thanks Leah), Echo & The Bunnymen as I did 3-4 years ago, and now I will probably start wearing all black, get some eyeliner and white, white powder to fully re-evaluate The Cure.

They always threaten that it will be the “Last Tour”. This time, I hope they really are lying.
