Preview: mr. Gnome, The Double-wide, Dallas, TX – 12/02/2010
The music gods must love Ohio. Or know there’s not much to do there (so the rest of us would assume). Regardless, the Buckeye State continually produces some of the most interesting of American musical acts. The Dead Boys. Pere Ubu. Brainiac. The Breeders. Guided By Voices. The Black Keys. Nine Inch Nails. Devo.
Please feel free to add mr. Gnome to this list.
The Cleveland based duo makes as much racket as The White Stripes (a comparison to another more recognizable two piece male/female act was inevitable, right?), yet with a much broader spectrum. Sporting equal parts estrogen and testosterone over the course of 2 full-length albums and 3 EP’s, mr. Gnome has incorporated many styles into their end product since their 2005 formation, including alt-rock, prog, post-rock, and psychedelia, to name a few. Altogether, we have another very creative act from Ohio.
I think it’s in the water.
mr. Gnome brings their inventive sound to Dallas’ The Double-Wide tonight, Dec. 2 for what is sure to be a memorable evening of music. Get out and see something that proves to be a unique musical experience, and be one of the first of your friends to be hip to this still emerging act.
Austin’s The Baker Family and Denton’s one man outfit Dim Locator (Will Kapinos formerly of Jetscreamer/Dove Hunter) round out the bill. Tickets available through Prekindle or through The Double-Wide box office tonight.
